THE NIGHT THE GRID QUITS

Here is exactly what happens

T+0:00
PG&E de-energizes your street

PSPS shutoff, storm damage, or grid strain. Every house around you goes dark.

T+0:10
Your generator is already running

The automatic transfer switch senses the loss, isolates your home from the grid, and starts the engine. No one flips a switch. It works whether you are home, asleep, or out of the country.

DAY 1–?
The whole house, indefinitely

It runs on your natural gas line, so there is nothing to refuel and no cords to run. Fridge, Wi-Fi, A/C, medical equipment, EV charger — for as long as the outage lasts.

GRID BACK
Automatic handback

When utility power is stable again, the switch transfers you back, and the generator cools down and returns to standby. Your phone gets the full story in the Mobile Link app.

THE 2026 NEXT GEN RANGE — kW
EIGHT SIZES · ONE RIGHT ANSWER

Sized to your home, not a sales quota

Generac builds the widest air-cooled range on the market — eight sizes from 10 to 28kW. We load-calculate your actual panel and gas supply, then quote the size the math supports. Here is how the range maps to Bay Area homes:

10–14kW
The essentialsFridge, freezer, furnace, lights, internet, garage door. The outage stops being an emergency.
18–24kW
Most Bay Area homesEverything above plus A/C, well or sump pumps, and the kitchen. Life continues as normal.
26–28kW
Large homes, EV, full A/CThe 28kW is the most powerful air-cooled home generator you can buy — multiple HVAC systems, major appliances, and EV charging at once.
Get my size + ballpark → 60 seconds, no visit needed
BEYOND 28kW · ESTATE & LARGE PROPERTY

When the load calc says bigger.

Multiple HVAC systems, pool and well equipment, elevators, guest houses, wine storage, three EV chargers in the garage — some properties simply need more than air-cooled generators make. For these homes we install Generac’s liquid-cooled line: 25 to 60kW and beyond, built around automotive-style engines designed for quiet, continuous full-load running. Same natural gas or propane supply, same automatic transfer, engineered for estates.

These projects are scoped privately — a senior member of our team walks the property, runs the full load study, and designs around your site lines and sound requirements. Discreet from first visit to startup.

STANDARD ON EVERY 2026 NEXT GEN UNIT

This is not your neighbor’s old generator

Built-in cellular + Wi-Fi monitoring

An industry first: every unit ships with multi-carrier cellular alongside Wi-Fi. The Mobile Link app shows status, runtime, and maintenance alerts from anywhere — and keeps reporting even when the outage takes your internet down with it.

A transfer switch that also guards your electronics

Generac is the only brand whose automatic transfer switch comes with factory-installed whole-home surge protection — a shield for the roughly $15,000 of sensitive electronics in a typical home, included in the install.

Fuel intelligence (EFIC)

Electronic Fuel and Ignition Control continuously adapts to weather and load, burning less gas during long outages and cutting emissions versus older generators.

Built for weather that shows up uninvited

Cold-start capability, continuous oil-level sensing, and an enclosure engineered to shed water and debris — because outages never happen on a nice day.

Half the maintenance visits

200-hour service intervals versus the 100-hour industry standard. Fewer visits, lower lifetime cost — and our annual plan handles all of it for you.

5-year factory warranty, serviced locally

Generac backs the generator, transfer switch, and thermostat for five years. We are the authorized dealer who installs AND services it, so the warranty has a local phone number: ours.

ecobee by Generac smart thermostat with generator

Optional: the ecobee by Generac smart thermostat manages HVAC startup during an outage so the generator never overloads, shows generator status from your hallway, and monitors propane tank levels for LP homes.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

What Bay Area homeowners ask us

What does a whole-home generator really cost, installed?

Most of our whole-home installs land between $16,000 and $28,000 complete — unit, pad, gas line, transfer switch, electrical, permits, and startup. Where you fall in that range is mostly size (10 vs 28kW), gas meter capacity, and how far the unit sits from your panel. The 60-second ballpark tool on our contact page gives you a real number before anyone visits. Read the full Bay Area cost guide →

How long does the whole process take?

The site visit usually happens within days, and the install itself is one to two days of on-site work. The variable in the middle is your city permit office — anywhere from about a week to several weeks depending on the city. We file immediately and ride the permit so it moves as fast as your city allows.

How loud is it?

Running under load it sounds like a central A/C condenser — conversation-level from the patio, unnoticeable indoors. It also runs a brief self-test once a week at a time you choose, and the Mobile Link app tells you it passed.

Does it need refueling?

No. It connects to your natural gas line and runs as long as the outage lasts. If your home is on propane, it runs from your tank, and the optional ecobee thermostat can monitor tank level. We verify your gas meter has the capacity during the site visit — and coordinate the upgrade with PG&E if a larger unit needs more supply.

Will it power my A/C and EV charger?

Sized correctly, yes. The 18–24kW range carries most homes including A/C; the 26–28kW units handle large homes running multiple HVAC systems, major appliances, and EV charging simultaneously. This is exactly what the load calculation answers.

What about permits and my city?

Included, always. We draw the plans, submit them, handle corrections, and meet the inspector at your home. Between our 900+ Bay Area installs, we have standing familiarity with nearly every permit office in our service area.

What maintenance does it need?

An annual service — oil, filters, plugs, battery, and a load test — keeps the factory warranty valid. Next Gen units go 200 hours between services, double the industry standard. Our annual plan does all of it automatically, with priority dispatch when outages hit.

Generator or a Tesla Powerwall?

Honest answer: it depends on how long your outages run and whether you have solar. The comparison table below breaks it down — and plenty of homes run both. A 15-minute call usually settles it.
